San Diego Sports Book Needs Your Stories…
May 25, 2009
From the coastline to Alpine, from North County to the Mexican border and everywhere in between, the San Diego youth and adult amateur sports scene is a breeding ground for successful athletes, coaches, officials, and some amazing stories. With literally hundreds of sports leagues and tens of thousands of participants, San Diego sports and athletics is the heartbeat of one of the most beautiful and most healthy cities in America.
With over a hundred local YMCA’s, Rec Centers, and Community fields you can find sports leagues for all ages, levels, and abilities. The weather allows for year round, seven days a week of sports fun. When there is that much going on athletically, it only makes sense that there would be hundreds of stories of “who’s who,” and who did what.
You can paddle out and see surf icon Kelly Slater ripping up the waves of Blacks Beach. You can get dunked on by (Future NFL Hall of Famer) LaDanian Tomilinson in a local adult rec-basketball league. There’s Torrey Pines golf course, Adidias Phenom basketball camp, And 1, Pony, VAVI sport and social club and BOSS officials. You never know who you’ll see when you show up to participate in a sports league; Trevor Hoffman coaching his young sons, the Walton’s running the courts at SDSU, one of the many Chargers All-pros who play in BOSS Hoops. There are stories of local softball players who hit 400 foot homers at PB Rec, or average 50 points a game in hoops. There is flag-football, beach volleyball, adult dodge-ball and even the nation’s largest adult kickball league.
San Diego is a melting pot for sports leagues, refs, and top-notch athletes. With all this action comes hundreds of amazing and compelling stories to go with it. Barry Alman hopes to capture some of these tales, statistics, and legends in his book and he needs your help. If you have a great sports story, facts, or simply know some amazing characters that play in the San Diego sports leagues, contact Barry at: refboss@yahoo.com and maybe your story or sports fact will get published.
